Bobby Jindal Plays Politics With BP Oil Disaster

In a truly amazing display of indifference, Bobby Jindal refuses to deploy the majority of National Guard troops at his disposal.

According to this CBS News report, Bobby Jindal has deployed less than 1,100 of the 6,000 National Guard troops that have been authorized for his state’s use since May.  That is not a typo!  Almost two full months have passed since the Federal Government cleared 6,000 troops to be used in cleaning up the Gulf Coast oil spill.

So when Governor Jindal says he cannot win this “war” because the federal government will not give him resources, what does this mean?  He hasn’t even used the resources he was given.

When CBS approached the Governor, he responded in a typical politician’s manner when he blamed the Coast Guard, BP, and the federal government.  But when CBS researched his claims, admiral Thad Allen said there was absolutely nothing standing in Jindal’s way.

And when the good Governor Bobby Jindal was backed into a corner, his spokesman said that they would “call up more National Guard troops.”  Really?  Now would be a great time.  Not as great as 60 days ago, but great none-the-less.

But wait, it gets even better.  Mr. Jindal’s office continued that statement by saying “We spend more time fighting red tape and bureaucracy than we ever should have to if the federal government understood this oil spill as the war that it is.”

The war that it is.  This refrain sounds an awful lot like a campaign sound bite.

So politics as usual for our elected officials.  And again, who is suffering?  It’s still the everyday families that relied on the resources of the Gulf Coast to make an average living.  Not billions of dollars.  Just an average living.

And now that BP has stopped paying those fishermen, how are they supposed to live?  That part has fallen squarely on us.  We need to support the Gulf Coast charities that are on the ground, keeping the average family fed and clothed.

And what about Governor Jindal?  Well I hope the residents of Louisiana don’t fall for the rhetoric at the next election.  I hope they stand up and say “Mr. Jindal, this is a war and you are relieved of duty.”
