CW Stars Helping in the Coast - Zap2it

I have heard many references to the younger generation and their willingness to volunteer.  America’s teens possess unbridled passion and energy.  In addition they can utilize technology in a far more effective way than their parents’ generation.

So I did a little digging, and here is what I found.  According to a 2005  survey conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau and the Corporation for National and Community Service, 55% of young people ages 12-18 volunteer their time for a cause.  That is almost double the adult volunteer rate of only 29%.

Over 100 years ago, Theodore Roosevelt created his second Federal Bird Reservation, which eventually became the Breton National Wildlife Refuge.

Roosevelt was an active outdoorsman and he wanted to preserve our natural resources for future generations.  When his successor, William Taft, allowed federal lands to be leased to private oil companies, the former President Roosevelt was so outraged that he formed a third party to challenge Taft in the next election.

Already burdened by Hurricane Katrinia and the current recession, Second Harvest  has expanded their efforts to include the victims of the BP oil spill.
